THE MONSTER AND ME SERIES
BOOK 4
MONSTER SPELLER

Gabby’s pet monster is supposed to compete in the district-wide spelling bee. But how can Dwight be a champion speller when no one understands him? After speech therapy fails, it seems the only answer is an interpreter. But if Vice Principal Burns has anything to say about it, there won’t be an interpreter or a monster speller.

Dr. James Bucky Carter
editor of Building Literacy Connections with Graphic Novels: Page by Page, Panel by Panel and co-author of the forthcoming Super-Powered Word Study: Teaching Words and Word Parts Through Comics.
The series is funny, pleasingly weird and has just the right blend of wackiness and ribald. Tom Percival’s unique art is both strangely effective and effectively strange...

Review:
Bookworming in the 21st Century - Kristen H.
This graphic novel mixes reality with fantasy... it's fun for kids to see what it could be like if you had a pet monster that went to school with you. The graphics are great and the reading level is great for struggling readers...

BOOK 1
MONSTER AND ME

Like every kid in town, twelve-year-old Gabby has a pet monster. However, Gabby refuses to keep her monster, Dwight, in the closet. When she takes her pet to school, the drama teacher takes a liking to the beastly pet. He wants the monster to play Scrooge in the annual Christmas production. If Dwight doesn't meet his expectations, both Gabby and her pet will be given the hook.
Reviews:
Practically Paradise - School Library Journal Blog - Diane Chen
I like this crazy Monster Dwight who tries to eat everyone whenever Gabby's head is turned. There are many lines and illustrations in this that older readers (grades 2-5) will appreciate. A quick read that is fun...
The Graphic Classroom - Chris Wilson
MONSTER AND ME is a breezy read with some nice vocabulary to boot: blubbering, enrolled, equal rights, ghoul... Tom Percival’s art is sketchy, rough, rugged - a compliment to the monster story. It has a 21st century, urban feel and is kid friendly without being childish...
